Sprout is an educational initiative of Looking Glass Pictures. We run workshops for children between 7-12 in filmmaking and media skills.

Sprout’s main goal is to teach visual literacy and empower young creative minds to identify their concerns, express themselves and tell stories that they can share.

Sprout identifies the voices and cares of this generation. The pre-teens are at a stage of development where they are beginning to grapple with some of the more philosophical questions of life. Sprout facilitates critical thinking and encourages storytelling through the development of collaborative filmmaking skills.

We offer training workshops for teachers and children in primary school. Schools are encouraged to increase their use of technology in their teaching and to use audio/visual techniques in the classroom to stimulate visual literacy through an exciting hands-on production model with students. We supply all the cameras, microphones and editing software that schools need to participate in the program. The workshop results in each group producing a 3-5 minute documentary, which the children research, film and edit themselves. Each child receives a copy of their own DVD to keep.
